Eliminate need for elastomer seals, mid string packers or cement when completing a well with tieback casing or liner

When a liner system has been installed in the well, it may require a tieback to extend the casing back to surface. We have a unique solution to permanently connect these traditionally separate systems into a single casing string featuring metal-to-metal gas-tight sealing and anchoring technology. The liner and casing tieback are tied with 14 individual metal-to-metal sealing points and high axial load capability. The liner and tieback can now be connected with no loss of ID, no elastomers, and no moving parts.

FAQ: Is the Integrated Liner Hanger Tieback System Appropriate for Your Well?

Technical engineers answer common questions about integrated liner tieback performance, applications, and best practices

What is the difference between a traditional tieback receptacle and the integrated liner tieback system?

The integrated liner hanger tieback system is a fully anchored metal-to-metal seal created by expanding the tieback directly to the liner system. A traditional tieback is typically a floating seal anchored by mechanical devices or cement.

How is the pressure generated to make the expanded connection downhole?

The pressure is generated by multiplying regular rig-supplied pressure using a downhole high-pressure intensifier located within a hydraulic expansion tool.

Does the well see any of the pressure from creating the connection?

No, all pressure required for the operation is contained within the expansion tool.

Has this system been run before?

Yes, this system has multiple installations in demanding operations in the North Sea.

How do I remove the tieback in the event I need to recover the liner hanger system for side-track purposes?

The system is removed with standard fishing techniques.

Is there option for sour service application?

Yes, materials for sour service applications are available for NACE carbon steels and exotic nickel alloys.

Eliminate complications in liner and tieback applications

Conventional options to tie back a liner to surface include cementing the tieback string in place or using hydraulic double-grip anchors, midstring packers, or floating seal assemblies. These solutions typically require

  • elastomers, slips, packers, and hydraulic cylinders that introduce potential leak paths or axial loading issues
  • a cement job, which limits future sidetrack options.

The fully integrated premium system eliminates these concerns to deliver the single solution you need to protect a parent casing during high-pressure testing operations, accommodate a narrow pore pressure window during installation, or address tubing movement concerns. The technology is also useful in remedial applications such as scab or stub liners.

The combined technology eliminates hydraulic anchors, midstring packers, and cemented tiebacks while delivering permanent, gas-tight seals between the tieback receptacle and the tieback string.
